US Army grounds Apache training flights after two soldiers killed in Texas crash

FORT HOOD, Texas — The U.S. Army has temporarily suspended training flights of AH-64 Apache helicopters following a crash near Fort Hood, Texas, that killed two soldiers. The Army said the flights were paused until the root cause of the accident is determined. The helicopter went down on Wednesday during a maintenance test flight near the base, according to the Army statement. Killed in the crash were 34-year-old Chief Warrant Officer 2 Deiontre T. Huey and 25-year-old Warrant Officer Seth L. Olmstead. The Army said a team from the Combat Readiness Center has been dispatched to investigate the circumstances of the crash and review safety procedures.
