University Student Dies After Ingesting Substance During Taxi Ride in Dhi Qar

DHI QAR, Iraq — A university student died after consuming an unidentified substance inside a taxi in Iraq's southern Dhi Qar province on Thursday, security sources said. The incident occurred in the evening in Nasiriyah, the provincial capital. The driver had picked up the young woman at the university to take her home west of the city. During the ride, she ingested a substance whose chemical composition has not yet been determined, sources said. She threw the bottle out of the vehicle. The driver noticed her deteriorating condition and rushed her to the nearest hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival, the sources said. Security forces launched an investigation and detained the taxi driver for questioning. The body was transferred to the forensic medicine department for legal procedures.
