BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Police in Iraq's Dhi Qar province said two people were killed and three others injured in separate incidents on Saturday. A police source said a woman died and three others sustained injuries of varying severity when a vehicle overturned on the international highway west of Nasiriya, the provincial capital. The victim's body was transferred to the forensic medicine department, while the injured were taken to the nearest medical facility.
In a separate incident, a man in his forties drowned in the Hel River in the city center, according to the same source. The cause of the drowning has not yet been determined, and the body was sent to the forensic medicine unit to establish the cause of death and complete legal procedures. Two people who had been accompanying the drowned man were detained under Article 405 of the amended Iraqi Penal Code No. 1969, police said.
Dhi Qar police said investigations into both the traffic accident and the drowning are continuing. No further details were immediately available.
