Two Iraqis arrested in Germany on suspicion of ISIS membership

BERLIN — Two Iraqi men, aged 33 and 27, were arrested in the German state of Saxony on suspicion of belonging to ISIS, the country's Office for Combating Extremism, part of the Federal Prosecutor's Office, said. According to the office, the suspects were detained during raids on their residences in Dresden and Königstein. Both face charges of membership in a terrorist organization abroad. Investigators said one is alleged to have served as a fighter in various ISIS structures between February 2016 and May 2017, while the other is alleged to have held a similar role between April 2016 and February 2017. Both are said to have received a monthly salary for their service. Mobile phones, a laptop and identity documents were seized during the searches, the statement added. The two men were brought before a judge at the Higher Regional Court, which ordered their detention pending investigation.
