TEHRAN, Iran — TEHRAN — Two earthquakes struck the Kuzeran region of Iran's western Kermanshah province on Saturday, five minutes apart. The first, of magnitude 5.2, was recorded at 07:13 local time at a depth of 8 kilometers, according to Iran's seismological center. A second tremor, magnitude 5.7 at a depth of 13 kilometers, followed at 07:18 in the same area. The center classified the second event as the main quake. The tremors were felt across the Gehare and Ravansar districts, the city of Sannandaj and the provincial capital Kermanshah, and were also reported in Kurdistan, Ilam, Hamadan and Lorestan provinces. Twelve aftershocks between magnitudes 2 and 2.9 were recorded in the hours afterward. Authorities placed rapid-response teams and national and local disaster management commissions at the highest level of alert. Thirty-five search-and-rescue, security and service teams were dispatched to the region. According to official reports from the disaster management agency and the Red Crescent, no disruptions to water, electricity or gas networks were reported. No fatalities were recorded; three people sustained minor injuries. Damage was limited to wall cracks, broken windows and partial collapses in older structures in some villages.
