Second shooting death in Dhi Qar within 24 hours as probes opened

DHI QAR, Iraq — A 20-year-old woman fatally shot herself at home with a Kalashnikov rifle in the al-Akayka subdistrict of Suq al-Shuyukh, Dhi Qar province, Iraqi security sources said. The body was transferred to the forensic medicine unit as police opened an investigation into the circumstances. The source said no motive had yet been identified. Officers are continuing to examine the case. The shooting came roughly 24 hours after a separate death in Dhi Qar's provincial capital, Nasiriya, where a 21-year-old woman died from a firearm at her home in the al-Tihchiya neighborhood on Tuesday evening. Her family filed a complaint blaming her husband, according to the same sources. Both cases are being investigated under the coordination of the Dhi Qar Police Directorate.
