Turkish cargo ship attacked in Black Sea, one crew member killed

A Turkish-flagged cargo vessel, the Ural, was attacked in the Black Sea off the Russian port of Novorossiysk, leaving one crew member dead and eight others wounded, the ship's owner, Kalioncu, said. The vessel was carrying commercial cargo at the time of the strike late on Tuesday, according to the company. The Ural had previously taken part in a humanitarian mission, rescuing 18 sailors from the ship Najibe after it was bombed by Ukrainian forces. One crew member died at the scene, while first aid was administered on board to the eight injured. Despite sustaining damage, the Ural continued its voyage and was expected to reach Turkey's Black Sea port of Samsun by midday on Wednesday. Medical and emergency response teams have been placed on standby at the port to transfer the wounded to hospital as soon as the ship arrives.
