Turkey in Contact With Saudi Arabia on Reviving Hejaz Railway

ANKARA, Türkiye — ANKARA — Turkey's Transport and Infrastructure Ministry said the country is in contact with Saudi Arabia about reviving the historic Hejaz Railway as a modern transportation and tourism link. Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said in Ankara on Sunday that the project aims to restore the century-old line connecting Turkey through Syria and Jordan to Saudi Arabia. The first phase involves establishing a connection from Turkey to Aleppo in Syria. Uraloğlu said the Aleppo-Damascus-Jordan line already exists, and reviving the Damascus-Amman section is also being considered. Talks have also been held about eventually extending the line to Oman, he added. The discussions signal continued momentum toward reconnecting regional transportation networks across the Middle East, though no timeline or financing details were provided.
