WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump told reporters that the Strait of Hormuz is fully open and that Iran will not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon, adding that more oil is now transiting the waterway than before. Speaking in Washington, Trump said Iran has performed well on the Strait of Hormuz and that negotiations aimed at reaching a fair and reasonable deal with Tehran have made good progress.
Trump said any frozen Iranian funds released under a deal would be used solely to purchase food products from American farmers. He reiterated that Iran's oil revenues should be spent on food for its people rather than rebuilding its military, and warned that the United States would act if Iran misbehaves.
Iran's Foreign Ministry said the Iranian delegation did not negotiate its nuclear program during talks with the U.S. team in Switzerland, and added that relations with the International Atomic Energy Agency will be conducted with the approval of the Iranian parliament. The two sides held the first round of high-level negotiations overnight from Sunday to Monday in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, co-sponsored by Qatar and Pakistan, and agreed on a roadmap targeting a final deal within 60 days.
