TEHRAN, Iran — BAGHDAD — U.S. President Donald Trump said the Strait of Hormuz is fully open, with more oil moving through the waterway than before, and declared that Iran will never obtain a nuclear weapon. Speaking on Monday, Trump said Iran has performed very well on the Strait of Hormuz issue and that negotiations toward a fair and reasonable deal with Tehran are making good progress.
Trump also said any frozen Iranian assets that are released will be used solely to purchase food products from American farmers. The remarks follow the first round of talks between U.S. and Iranian delegations in Switzerland, aimed at reaching a permanent agreement within 60 days.
Pakistani and Qatari mediators said the two sides had made encouraging progress and would continue discussing technical details this week. No further details on a potential deal were immediately available.
