BAGHDAD, Iraq โ U.S. President Donald Trump said the Strait of Hormuz is "completely open" and that Iran will not be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon. Speaking in Washington, Trump said more oil is moving through the waterway than before and credited Iran with a strong performance on the issue.
Trump said negotiations aimed at reaching a fair and reasonable deal with Iran were making good progress. He added that any released frozen Iranian financial assets would be used solely to purchase food products from American farmers, and that Iranian oil revenues should be spent on food for its people rather than rebuilding the country's military.
Reiterating that the United States will act if Iran misbehaves, Trump argued the process with Iran would not cause a global economic downturn. He did not provide further details on the negotiations or a timeline.
Separately, Iran's Foreign Ministry said the Iranian delegation at high-level U.S.โIran talks held in Bรผrgenstock, Switzerland, under joint Qatari and Pakistani mediation did not discuss its nuclear program. The ministry added that relations with the International Atomic Energy Agency will be conducted in line with approval from the Iranian parliament and that no new nuclear commitments have been accepted.
