Trump says Strait of Hormuz 'completely open' after US-Iran talks

TEHRAN, Iran — U.S. President Donald Trump announced the Strait of Hormuz is "completely open," saying more oil is now transiting the waterway than before. "The Strait of Hormuz is completely open and Iran will never have a nuclear weapon," Trump said, praising Iran's performance on the issue and noting what he described as good progress toward a fair and reasonable deal with Tehran. Trump added that any released frozen Iranian assets would be used solely to purchase food products from American farmers. His remarks came after Iranian and U.S. delegations completed the first round of negotiations in Switzerland aimed at reaching a permanent agreement within 60 days. Mediators from Pakistan and Qatar said the two sides made "encouraging progress" and will continue technical-level talks later this week.
