WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said Iran has agreed to forgo nuclear weapons "forever," rejecting as "fake news" reports that the United States paid Tehran $300 million as part of a deal. Speaking alongside Trump, Vice President JD Vance said the memorandum of understanding drafted between Washington and Tehran runs about 1.5 pages and outlines a general framework for negotiations while remaining a public document. Vance said the two sides still need to resolve many technical issues and that the text's opening paragraph affirms U.S. and Iranian commitment to peace in the region. The agreement would give Iran benefits in return for its commitments, he said, reiterating that Iran must stop funding "violent terrorist organizations" and regional instability. On the nuclear file, Vance said International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors will return to Iran as part of conditions to end the war, and that the agency and the United States will support Tehran in destroying its stockpile of highly enriched uranium. He acknowledged it is impossible to be "100 percent" certain Iran will honor all its commitments. Vance credited Qatar and Pakistan with making a "big contribution" as mediators, adding that Trump may release details of the agreement to the public before a planned signing on Friday.
