Talaba receives 2 billion dinars to resolve financial crisis

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Talaba Sports Club has received 2 billion dinars in funding to address a financial crisis that began with the 2026-2027 Iraqi Stars League season. The club said it was unable to make the first installment of player payments on time because funding from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research was delayed. Following the ministry’s budget approval, the funds are expected to be distributed to the players in the coming days. The payment delay had required the club’s management and coaching staff, including Iranian coach Ali Reza Mansourian, to maintain regular contact with the players. With the financing now available, the club has begun negotiations to sign a professional player before the transfer window closes. Talaba drew 2-1 with Diyala in its opening league match and played to a 3-3 draw with Duhok in the second round. The team is seeking its first victory against Nawroz in its next match.
