ADEN, Yemen โ€” A Syrian doctor and his wife were killed in a shooting near the governor's residence in Aden on June 11, Yemen's provincial security directorate said. The victims were identified as Samer Ahmed Hassan and Samaher al-Mousa, both physicians who had migrated from Syria and were working at a specialist medical center in the southern port city. Aden's provincial security directorate said the gunfire came from a member of the security detail responsible for protecting the governor's residence. The gunman was killed during an attempt by security forces to apprehend him, according to the statement. Investigations indicated the couple had previously served at Tishreen Military Hospital in Syria. Syrian Interior Ministry officials said they had no information about their work at the military facility, while the Health Ministry said Tishreen Military Hospital falls under the Defense Ministry and that the matter should be handled by the relevant authority. Social media posts suggested the couple had been targeted over their past military hospital roles, though no evidence supporting that claim was provided by officials. Hassan specialized in internal medicine and kidney transplantation, while al-Mousa specialized in rheumatology and autoimmune diseases. No further details were immediately available.
