KHARTOUM, Sudan โ€” The body calling itself Sudan's "Peace Government" said it is coordinating with international and regional partners to open safe corridors for civilians in El-Obeid, a city outside the capital, and to deliver humanitarian aid. Government spokesman and Information Minister Khalid Dena said the cabinet is ready to engage in dialogue with the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union and other international parties. In a statement, the government called for an unconditional and immediate humanitarian ceasefire to allow civilians wishing to leave El-Obeid to move to safe areas, to ensure humanitarian assistance reaches those in need without discrimination, and to evacuate the wounded. It also urged the international community to press the Muslim Brotherhood organization and its affiliated armed forces more forcefully to respond to ceasefire appeals. The body said the steps will be carried out under the supervision of the African Union and the international community. Dena described an unconditional humanitarian ceasefire as the most effective way to protect civilians and end their suffering. The "Peace Government" is based in Nyala, in southwestern Sudan, and is led by Rapid Support Forces commander General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
