Six European Football Federations Declare No Confidence in FIFA Chief

HELSINKI, Finland — The football federations of Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Sweden and the Faroe Islands declared no confidence in FIFA President Gianni Infantino. The six federations announced their position in a joint statement after representatives met in Helsinki. It also called for binding legal safeguards to prevent FIFA from transferring responsibility for its administration or tournaments to private individuals or organizations in the future. They also called for effective checks and balances in the organization’s decision-making processes. The declaration came despite Infantino’s earlier withdrawal of proposals concerning the sale of World Cup hosting and organizational rights, indicating continued discontent among the six European federations.
