HELSINKI, Finland — The football federations of Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Sweden and the Faroe Islands declared no confidence in FIFA President Gianni Infantino. The six federations announced their position in a joint statement after representatives met in Helsinki. The statement criticized FIFA’s management style and backed initiatives launched by UEFA and European football federations. It also called for binding legal safeguards to prevent FIFA from transferring responsibility for its administration or tournaments to private individuals or organizations in the future. The federations requested an independent and comprehensive review of FIFA’s governance to uphold standards of independence, transparency and accountability. They also called for effective checks and balances in the organization’s decision-making processes. The declaration came despite Infantino’s earlier withdrawal of proposals concerning the sale of World Cup hosting and organizational rights, indicating continued discontent among the six European federations.
