MAYSAN, Iraq โ Security forces intervened on Wednesday against engineers staging a sit-in in front of the Maysan Oil Company building to demand jobs and appointments in Iraq's oil sector, according to footage from the area. Video circulating from the scene showed force being used against the protesters during the dispersal.
The demonstrators said they would continue their protest, accusing authorities of failing to address employment and assignment demands in the oil industry. They argued that their demands had been raised through peaceful means and that security personnel had used excessive force.
Maysan Oil Company management and the provincial police have not yet issued an official statement on the incident. No further details were immediately available.
