Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Baghdad Shootout

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Baghdad Police Command announced the arrest of a suspect in a shooting that killed one person in the Karkh district. The incident occurred in the Jihad neighborhood after a dispute between two parties escalated into a shootout, according to a written statement from the command. Police teams from the Karkh Security Directorate's Media Police Branch conducted the investigation, evidence collection and suspect tracking with support from intelligence units. Officers identified the location where the suspect was hiding and launched an operation. During the operation, the suspect held a gun beneath his chin in an attempted suicide and refused to surrender. Under the direct supervision of the Baghdad Karkh Deputy Police Commander, officers subdued and arrested the suspect after more than two hours of negotiations. No injuries were reported during the operation. Authorities also seized a Kalashnikov rifle hidden inside a motorcycle at the scene.
