BAGHDAD, Iraq — One person was killed and two others were injured in an armed clash on Wednesday in Wasit province, southern Iraq. Security sources said the confrontation broke out near the shrine of Sahaba Said bin Jubayr in the Hay district, located in the southwest of the province.
Security forces were dispatched to the scene and cordoned off the area as an investigation was launched. The body of the deceased was transferred to a forensic medical unit, while the two wounded were taken to a nearby health facility for treatment.
Authorities are working to identify those involved in the clash and determine what triggered the violence, according to the same sources.
