BAGHDAD, Iraq โ A man in his 40s was killed and an intelligence service member survived a separate shooting in Baghdad on Tuesday, according to security sources. Two armed attacks were carried out in different parts of the capital on the same day.
In the first incident, a gunman on a motorcycle opened fire in the al-Shaab area in northern Baghdad before fleeing in an unknown direction, a security source said. Security forces dispatched to the scene transferred the body to the forensic medicine department, launched an investigation and began reviewing surveillance footage to identify the attacker.
The second attack took place in the New Baghdad area in the eastern part of the capital, where an unidentified individual fired from a vehicle at an intelligence agency member who was off duty, according to the same source. The officer was not injured, though his vehicle sustained damage.
Security units have opened an investigation into both attacks and are conducting searches in the surrounding areas, the source added. No further details were immediately available on suspects or motive.
