BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Dozens of oil sector workers gathered in Baghdad to protest the government's reported intention to impose large-scale deductions on their salaries and financial entitlements. Security sources said riot police were sent to the area near the Dora Refinery on the Karkh side of the capital.
The security teams were deployed to maintain order, prevent road blockages and protect public and private property, the sources said. Protesters held banners calling on authorities to reverse the financial measures and to pay their legal entitlements in full.
During the demonstration, participants also called for a formal meeting with officials so their demands could be submitted through official channels. No further details on the scale of the planned cuts or any government response were immediately available.
