Nutritionists say tomatoes and cucumbers support the body's hydration balance due to their high water content, with cucumbers made up of roughly 95โ96 percent water and tomatoes around 93โ95 percent.
Tomatoes provide vitamin C, vitamin K1, folate and potassium, along with antioxidants such as lycopene, beta-carotene and quercetin, which the experts link to heart health support, cholesterol balance and anti-inflammatory effects. Cucumbers, with their low calorie and sodium content, are positioned as a suitable option for weight control.
On fiber, tomatoes edge ahead of cucumbers, offering about 1.2 grams per 100 grams compared with roughly 0.5 grams in cucumbers, with the skin carrying much of the insoluble fiber that aids digestion. Both vegetables contain electrolytes such as potassium and magnesium, contributing to fluid regulation.
Nutritionists recommend cucumbers for those focused primarily on hydration and tomatoes for those seeking additional fiber and antioxidants, and note that consuming the two vegetables together is described as ideal for a balanced diet.
