Rehabilitation work on the second thermal unit at the Nasiriyah power plant in southern Iraq has reached an advanced stage, as technical teams from the Electricity Systems Inspection and Rehabilitation Company continue efforts to strengthen the reliability of the national power system. The work is focused on restoring key boiler components and improving operational performance at the facility.
The company said its teams have replaced the boiler floor pipes and the internal and external insulation elements. Using arc welding techniques, crews also repaired the pipe seams linking the boiler’s front and rear walls.
So far, 190 of 224 straight pipes and 155 of 224 elbows have been installed, while more than 700 of the 896 arc welding connections have been completed. The rehabilitation project is intended to improve the unit’s technical condition and support more stable electricity generation.
The work has taken longer than planned, extending from the scheduled 45 days to 85 days because of additional development tasks. The company said it continues the project with national engineering capacity to reinforce the reliability of the electricity system.
