Najaf Advances Garneyn Oil Field Development, Production Expected Next Year

Najaf Governor Yusuf Kenavi announced that preparations are underway to launch oil production at the Garneyn oil field, with commercial extraction expected to begin within the next year. Speaking about the province’s energy sector developments, Kenavi said two wells have already been drilled at the field, while a Chinese company has completed exploration activities at the site. He noted that Najaf has three oil fields in total, in addition to two jointly managed fields operated in coordination with neighboring provinces. Kenavi said ongoing efforts are aimed at strengthening the province’s role in Iraq’s energy industry and attracting further investment into the sector. The governor also said Najaf and the Kurdistan Region have agreed to establish mutual representative offices to facilitate cooperation and improve investment-related procedures. Under the agreement, Najaf will open a representative office in the Kurdistan Region, while the Kurdistan Region will establish a corresponding office in Najaf. Kenavi said the initiative is intended to streamline administrative processes and support companies and investors operating between the two sides.
