Man arrested in Duhok for shooting nephew dead at hospital

DUHOK, Iraq — A man has been arrested for fatally shooting his nephew at Duhok Emergency Hospital after initially bringing the 24-year-old in for treatment for a broken leg, the provincial police directorate said on Saturday. Police spokesman Lt. Col. Aram Sulayman said the uncle returned to the hospital about 24 hours later and opened fire on the victim with a pistol, killing him at the scene. Sulayman said the initial investigation indicated the killing stemmed from a family dispute. A warrant was issued against the suspect under Article 406 of the Iraqi Penal Code, which covers homicide, and legal proceedings are ongoing, the spokesman added. A security source had earlier said the victim was shot in the morning with a silenced weapon and that the attacker was detained the same day. The police directorate did not provide further details on a possible motive or the suspect's identity, and no additional information was immediately available.
