USGS reports magnitude 5.6 earthquake off Northern California coast

The office of California Governor Gavin Newsom said the governor had been briefed on reports of the earthquake and that the Governor's Office of Emergency Services was coordinating closely with local authorities to assess potential impacts and damage. USGS recorded at least 15 aftershocks in the region following the initial quake. Officials said damage assessment work was continuing and that developments were being monitored.
