Magnitude 4.6 earthquake strikes southeastern Iran, no damage reported

TEHRAN, Iran — A magnitude 4.6 earthquake hit the Bardsir district of Kerman province in southeastern Iran early Sunday, according to local authorities. The tremor struck at 03:46 local time at a depth of 10 kilometers, with its epicenter located at zero kilometers from Bardsir, 22 kilometers from Nekar, 36 kilometers from Bağin and 62 kilometers from the city of Kerman, the Iranian Earthquake Monitoring Center reported. Kerman province Crisis Management Director General Gholamreza Nejad Haliqi said assessment teams were dispatched to the area after the quake and determined that it caused no damage. Iran has experienced several similar earthquakes in recent months, including a magnitude 4.6 tremor recorded in May near the border of Tehran and Mazandaran province. Authorities said those earlier temblors also caused no significant casualties or property damage.
