ERBIL, Iraq โ€” The Kurdistan Region's Independent Human Rights Commission condemned the killing of a Kurdish shepherd by Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in a border area and called for a transparent international investigation. In a statement, the commission said the shepherd, a resident of the Bradost area in Erbil, was shot dead by direct fire on the Kelshin border hills. According to the commission, the IRGC also took the body and the shepherd's animals into Iranian territory. The commission described the incident as an attack on civilian life, a violation of sovereignty, and a breach of international agreements governing the two countries' shared border. It demanded accountability for those responsible and compensation for the shepherd's family. The commission said it was following up with relevant authorities to prevent a recurrence of similar incidents and offered condolences to the bereaved family. The statement noted that civilians, including shepherds, have been targeted periodically along the Kurdistan Region's frontier with Iran. No further details on the date of the shooting were immediately available.
