Kurdistan Region president meets German lawmaker in Erbil

ERBIL, Iraq — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met on Wednesday in Erbil with German Federal Parliament lawmaker Kasim Tahir Saleh of the Greens Party, the Kurdistan Region Presidency said in a statement. During the meeting, Barzani thanked the German parliament and government for their support to the Kurdistan Region during difficult periods, particularly in the fight against terrorism, and acknowledged accommodation and assistance Germany has provided to displaced migrants. The two sides discussed recent developments in the region and explored ways to strengthen relations between the Kurdistan Region and Germany across various fields, according to the presidency. The statement said both sides expressed mutual willingness to continue cooperation. Saleh's visit coincided with a ceremony at the "Stefan" camp at Erbil International Airport marking the formal end of the tour of duty of German military advisers serving in the Kurdistan Region, organized by the Ministry of Peshmerga on the same day.
