TEHRAN, Iran — TEHRAN — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran during an official visit, the Kurdistan Region Presidency said. The talks covered relations between Iraq, the Kurdistan Region and Iran, with both sides reviewing cooperation, coordination and ways to reduce regional tensions.
The visit took place at the invitation of the Iranian president and is also expected to include a program related to the late Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei. According to the presidency, the two sides stressed the importance of maintaining regional dialogue and mutual understanding for security and stability.
The trip carries a protocol dimension alongside its political content. Barzani is expected to deliver messages during his Tehran contacts concerning the Kurdistan Region's relations with Baghdad and other regional capitals.
