ERBIL, Iraq โ The Kurdistan Region Electricity Ministry announced Tuesday that technical faults and maintenance work at gas power plants have reduced electricity production, causing temporary outages in some residential areas.
The ministry said teams are coordinating with gas plant personnel to repair the faults and restore electricity to normal levels as quickly as possible.
The regional power system has also been affected since early June by a decline in gas production from the Kormor field. According to the ministry, output fell from 4,500 megawatts to 3,700 megawatts, representing a loss of approximately 800 megawatts in total generation capacity.
In Erbil, some neighborhoods activated private generators to compensate for the shortfall in national electricity supply.
