Kirkuk Governor Agha and the United Nations representative discussed development projects, economic priorities and public services in the province during a meeting that also reviewed the political and security situation. The talks focused on strengthening stability in Kirkuk and aligning local efforts with Iraq’s National Vision and the new United Nations Cooperation Framework (2025–2029).
Agha said the provincial administration is committed to a full transition toward sustainable development and stressed that Kirkuk’s cultural and ethnic diversity, together with coexistence among its different components, makes it represent a “small Iraq.” He said the meeting also covered climate change, water management, environmental protection and the adoption of governance and modern administrative systems that promote prosperity and support political stability.
He underlined the need to support the agricultural sector, confront drought risks and expand the role of international organizations in restoring stability and rebuilding liberated areas. He also called for programs to improve public performance and for greater use of international expertise and support in developing the industrial, commercial and investment sectors.
Agha said efforts to expand the province’s green areas should also be backed, adding that Kirkuk has a fertile investment environment because of major educational institutions such as Kirkuk University and its large youth population. He said these assets could help address unemployment and create a development drive that is one of Kirkuk’s shared goals.
The UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator praised Agha’s vision and his determination to develop the province in a way that secures stability, reconstruction and sustainable cohesion.
