Iraqi security forces arrest foreign drug suspect in Maysan, seize alcohol in Dhi Qar

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraqi security forces said Friday they arrested a foreign national described as a crystal methamphetamine dealer in Maysan province, seizing about one kilogram of the drug after intelligence work and sustained surveillance. The Maysan Drug Enforcement Unit said the suspect was identified as one of the most dangerous foreign narcotics traffickers in the province. Legal proceedings have been initiated and the case file has been referred for prosecution, according to the unit's statement. Separately, security sources in Dhi Qar province said a truck was seized on the old road leading to central Nasiriya, where authorities found alcoholic beverages inside the vehicle. The operation was carried out jointly by units affiliated with the Intelligence Service and the 3rd Battalion of the 8th Brigade Energy Police. Officials said the investigation into the seized materials and the suspect was ongoing.
