BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraqi police are holding a social media content creator known as "Abu Janna" while investigating the source of cash and gifts he distributed to followers online, his lawyer said.
Attorney Muhammad al-Karraf confirmed Abu Janna remains in custody and that reports of his release were inaccurate. The investigation falls under Article 456 of Iraq's penal code, covering fraud allegations. Nineveh Police announced the detention on May 31, saying officers were examining the source of money and gifts the content creator had distributed.
Al-Karraf said his client surrendered voluntarily to authorities and is in good health. The lawyer added that investigation committees have completed their review of company facilities tied to the case, though he provided no further details.
The inquiry focuses on four-wheel-drive vehicles, phones and other gifts Abu Janna gave away through his social media accounts. No further information was immediately available.
