Iraqi police dismantle eight drug networks in Maysan, arrest 28 suspects

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Police in Iraq's Maysan province dismantled eight drug trafficking and distribution networks in August and arrested 28 suspects, the Maysan Anti-Narcotics Directorate said. Among those detained were one foreign national and an Iraqi described as "very dangerous" who was wanted in multiple cases, the directorate said in a written statement. Officers seized a total of seven kilograms of narcotics during the operations, according to the statement. Investigations and detention procedures are continuing, the directorate added. The statement said security forces are carrying out coordinated operations in the province as part of efforts to counter drug smuggling.
