BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaydi met on Monday in Baghdad with Jasem Mohammed al-Budaiwi, Secretary General of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and his accompanying delegation, according to a government statement. Al-Budaiwi conveyed congratulations from GCC leaders following the Iraqi government's receipt of a vote of confidence from the Iraqi parliament, the statement said. The two sides discussed ways to strengthen relations between Iraq and GCC member states and expand cooperation across various fields. Al-Zaydi described the Gulf countries as an Arab extension and strategic depth for Iraq, and said the government would focus in the coming period on consolidating state institutions, strengthening the economy and upholding the rule of law. He added that Iraq remained open to regional and international partnerships based on mutual respect and shared interests. Al-Budaiwi welcomed the Iraqi government's reform process, particularly in areas aimed at strengthening the economy, combating corruption and centralizing arms under state authority, the statement added.
