Member of Parliament Mudhir al-Kurawi has submitted a formal request to the Iraqi Parliament seeking the current status of more than 20 clean energy projects. The inquiry comes as Iraq anticipates a deepening electricity crisis and more challenging conditions by the summer of 2026. Each of the pending projects is designed to generate between 100 and 150 megawatts of power. These initiatives are viewed as a strategic necessity to stabilize the national grid. Iraq's current renewable energy capacity stands at approximately 22 megawatts. However, 1.2 gigawatts of capacity are currently under construction, with an additional 2.8 gigawatts in the development phase. Al-Kurawi emphasized that clean energy represents a critical strategic option for the country, calling for enhanced cooperation among all stakeholders to accelerate implementation.
