BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraqi Air Force F-16 fighter jets carried out two airstrikes against militants in Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad, the country's military said. The strikes were conducted as part of a targeted pursuit operation aimed at terrorist elements in the area, according to security sources.
The military said the militants targeted in the raids were neutralized. Officials added that the air operations were supported by coordinated intelligence work in the region.
Diyala has been among the rural provinces most frequently targeted by Islamic State infiltrators and sabotage attempts in recent years. Iraqi authorities said earlier security operations in the area would continue.
Officials said the strikes caused no damage to civilians. No further details on casualties or specific locations were immediately available.
