BAGHDAD, Iraq โ A Baghdad court has ordered former Iraqi Red Crescent Secretary-General Jamal Nasir Karboli to return $4.5 million to the organization's budget, citing financial violations during his tenure.
The Karkh Court of Appeal issued a final judgment against Karboli after identifying fiscal irregularities and misconduct during his time as head of the humanitarian organization. The ruling mandates the reimbursement of public funds to the Iraqi Red Crescent's budget.
The decision is part of a broader effort by Iraqi authorities to recover misappropriated state resources and pursue financial corruption cases. Specialized judicial units in Baghdad have been handling multiple corruption files involving public institutions in recent years.
It remained unclear whether Karboli's lawyers would appeal the ruling.
