Iraqi authorities seize 1 kg of magic mushrooms, 2 kg of hashish in Sulaymaniyah operation

SULAYMANIYAH, Iraq — Iraqi security forces seized one kilogram of psilocybin mushrooms, known locally as "magic mushrooms," along with two kilograms of hashish in an anti-narcotics operation in Sulaymaniyah, the Interior Ministry said. One drug trafficking suspect was detained in the raid. The operation was carried out by the Kirkuk Narcotics Affairs Directorate in coordination with the Sulaymaniyah Anti-Narcotics Directorate, according to a written statement from the ministry's General Directorate for Combating Narcotics. Officials said the operation was based on intelligence work and inter-directorate coordination. The statement added that drug networks are being brought under control and warned that traffickers renaming substances or adopting new methods of sale would not evade capture. The ministry said drug dealers would not be allowed to escape law enforcement. Officials said counter-narcotics operations would continue in both Sulaymaniyah and Kirkuk.
