Iraq’s Veterinarians Union said a letter issued by the Livestock Department restricts veterinarians’ rights and seeks to weaken the union’s legal and professional role. The union said the move is incompatible with the legal framework and undermines the profession’s standing.
It said veterinarians must be allowed to channel complaints, objections and applications through the union, adding that blocking those procedures is not consistent with established rules. The union also reminded officials that it has the authority to defend members’ rights and regulate relations with state institutions.
The statement accused some administrative circles of pursuing measures that pressure and exclude veterinarians rather than develop the profession. It said such practices run counter to the interests of the sector and the profession’s institutional role.
The union warned that if this approach continues, it will take clear and lawful steps to defend the rights of its members.
