BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's automobile market contracted sharply in the first quarter of 2026, with vehicle sales falling 34.3 percent year-on-year to 30,838 units, according to data from Focus 2 Move.
The decline was driven primarily by economic slowdown and inflation pressure that weakened purchasing power across the country. Market leader Kia retained its top position with a 23.3 percent share, though its sales tumbled 41.4 percent. Toyota ranked second with 23.2 percent of the market, posting a 32.8 percent sales drop. Nissan held third place, limiting its decline to 4.1 percent.
Jetour stood out as the sole major gainer, increasing sales by 23.9 percent to capture 7.7 percent of the market and move into sixth place. Electric vehicle sales, meanwhile, plummeted 79.3 percent, accounting for just 1 percent of total vehicles sold.
