Iraq to see temperatures near 50°C as heat wave grips country

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's meteorological authority said a heat wave will affect the country on Monday, with clear, hot weather nationwide and temperatures rising slightly from the previous day. The agency said Tuesday will bring similar conditions, with another modest increase in temperatures. According to the authority, northwesterly winds of moderate strength are expected on Wednesday, with speeds exceeding 40 kilometers per hour in many parts of the central and northern regions. The agency warned that the winds will raise dust in those areas, where temperatures are forecast to drop by several degrees, while the south will see readings close to those of the previous day. On Thursday, temperatures in central and northern Iraq are expected to remain at similar levels, with a slight decrease in the south. The authority said maximum temperatures recorded on Monday will range between 41°C and 50°C across the country.
