Iraq signs memorandum with Turkish firm on smart water management

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Minister of Water Resources, Munzir al-Tamimi, signed a memorandum of cooperation on Sunday with Turkish company Kolaysoft aimed at advancing smart management of the country's water resources. The agreement covers joint work on digital transformation projects and supports the optimal use of water, according to a statement from the minister. Al-Tamimi said modern technologies need to be adopted to address the challenges of climate change and rising consumption rates. The ministry added that the memorandum would not impose any financial burden on its budget. Under the deal, the Turkish company is expected to help establish an integrated system to monitor, measure and collect data on surface and groundwater. The agreement also covers the development of analytical programs at consumption points, the use of remote sensing and meter-reading technologies, training programs for ministry staff, and the integration of geographic mapping of water resources into national digital transformation priorities.
