BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Border Crossings Authority said a vehicle carrying smuggled goods was seized at the Zarbatiya border crossing after being stopped at an inspection point outside the customs zone. Authority spokesperson Alaeddin al-Qaisi said in a written statement that the seized cargo consisted of plastic molds and plumbing pipes.
Al-Qaisi said a review of the completed customs paperwork found that the shipment's description had been altered in order to evade the actual customs duties. He said the tampering had caused a loss to public funds.
The vehicle was referred to the Zarbatiya customs police station, and an official record was prepared. The authority said the case will be brought before the Badra investigative court judge, with legal action to be taken against those responsible.
