BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Security Media Cell said the number of visitors entering the country from the start of the Muharram month until late Thursday had reached 2,887,305, as pilgrims continued to arrive for the Arbaeen commemoration. In a statement, the cell said visitors from multiple countries were still streaming in for the observance.
The cell said the security and services plan covering border crossings and main routes was being carried out with the direct support of the prime minister, who also serves as commander-in-chief of the armed forces. Security units and supporting agencies were operating under the supervision of the Supreme Committee for Million-Visitor Pilgrimages.
Officials said regulatory and service measures had been intensified in line with the rising numbers of arrivals. They added that precautions aimed at ensuring a safe and orderly flow of pilgrims were continuing throughout the visit period.
