BASRA, Iraq โ Iraq's national football team sent a message of thanks to Boston before departing the city following its opening 2026 World Cup group-stage match against Norway at Gillette Stadium. Aymen Hussein scored Iraq's lone goal in the fixture.
After the final whistle, Hussein wrote "Thank you Boston" by hand on the whiteboard in the dressing room. The Iraqi delegation expressed its gratitude for the warm welcome and support it received throughout its stay in the city.
The gesture came as the squad prepared to continue its World Cup campaign at its next stop. The team said it would carry the positive reception from Boston into its remaining fixtures as it looks to improve its performance in the tournament.
