Iraq's meteorological agency warns of rising humidity in southern provinces

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's General Directorate of Meteorology said on Friday that surface humidity will gradually rise across the country's southern provinces starting Friday, driven by southeasterly winds carrying water vapor from the Gulf. The increase is expected to be most felt in Maysan, Basra and Dhi Qar, the agency said, adding that the higher humidity is forecast to last about a week and to be accompanied by rising temperatures. The Air Forecasting Division noted that wind speeds will vary across different parts of the country and that autumn cloud cover will increase in the coming days. Light rain showers are also expected next week in northern areas, according to the forecast unit. Officials urged the public to avoid prolonged exposure to extreme heat, particularly during midday hours, and to drink sufficient fluids for safety.
