BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's General Land Transport Company recorded 1,754 cross-border transit trips under the TIR system in August, the company's director general, Murtaza Karim al-Shahmani, said in a statement.
Al-Shahmani attributed the figure to continuous monitoring by the relevant authorities and coordination among the units implementing the system. He said the work of the local guarantee team and contact point within the Ministry of Transport had helped streamline procedures for carriers and reduced obstacles they faced.
The company said the number of recorded trips pointed to higher truck traffic and cargo flow at border crossings. Al-Shahmani added that the figure reflected continued growth in transit transport and supported Iraq's position in the international transport and trade system.
